We saw from the precedent article the way to optimize our SEO, now let’s talk about SEO itself. First of all, let’s give a bettre definition for it: Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via « natural » (« organic » or « algorithmic ») search results.

1-Indexing

a- Why indexing?

The primary goal of SEO is to improve visibility by creating content that meets the needs, with good writing and good presentation. As being placed in the first pages of Google is unsustainable, the best results depend on the popularity of the site (attendance, number of links pointing to the site). Thus, we need a correct referencing and monitoring of statistics to fit the needs and improve outcomes.

b-How to index:

a- Good choice of domain name: It must contain a word representative of the site and its theme or name if it is a brand
– Legal aspects:

o well check to describe its own brand rather than a competitor
o different laws for each country
o well informed on all the responsibilities for the management of the site (presence of risk or not)
– Relevance:
o Consider keywords
o Avoid long words, compounds, difficult to remember

b- Good description of your site
This is the text displayed by the search engines under the title of the result. It is given by the tag: <meta name= »description » content= »Description of site… » />. It provides a comprehensive description, with catchy and talking words that  may be the subject of research of the target user.

c- Title page corresponding to the relevant content
The title is one of the first items read by search engines, it must be relevant and likely to be used in research. It should describe the content.

d- Good description pages
Each page has its own « meta description » (default: from the site itself). It is especially important to give a description of the most important pages, and may appear in a search.

e- Links without redundancy
We must avoid several menu items pointing to the same page. Redundant links are penalized by the search engines. This rule does not affect the links within a content.

f- Clear and readable URL
You must rewrite the URL clearer, depending on titles aliases. The use of aliases is to provide information to search engines.

g- Dynamic map of your site (sitemap)
– Put a map of the site to allow users to have a global vision
– Creation of a. Sitemap file based on all links (possibility to exclude unwanted links)

h- Recording the Sitemap URL to search engines
– Google: http://www.google.fr/webmasters/sitemaps
– Yahoo: http://fr.search.yahoo.com/free/request
– Bing (Microsoft): http://webmaster.live.com
